My name is Sadie Rose. I started my hat business three years ago when I was eleven. I LOVE to sew! I learned to sew from an amazing friend named Ellen (who is also a fantastic photographer) when I was five or six and I just kept going. When I made these long striped hats for Christmas presents for my family and friends, everyone LOVED them, so I decided to try to sell some hats. I've sold them at fairs and at shops (including a shop in NYC) and through friends and family. However, the best place for selling my hats is on this website. I Love COLOR. These hats are fun to make because I get to use lots of awesome colors. I like mixing them in different ways on each hat. My favorite colors are ORANGE, vermilion, saffron, apricot, bittersweet, coral, peach, red-yellow, salmon, tangerine, carmine, scarlet, claret, copper, coral, crimson, dahlia, rust, chestnut, persimmon, fireball, cayenne, mango, cognac, pumpkin and ginger. I design and sew a lot of my own clothes. I enjoy looking at what people are wearing, the styles and colors. Then I design new outfits, new "looks". Then I sew new outfits and try them out. Here is a photo of me in a coat I made. I've had other sewing jobs before, (for instance, when I was ten, I made five dresses for a cabaret show some people were performing in on St. John, USVI), but this is my first actual business. There have been some great articles written about my business. Here is one from the NashuaTelegraph. Another article was in the Monadnock Ledger Transcript. I was also featured on the front page of the Business Section of the Union Leader's Sunday paper last February(scroll down the page until you see: Wilton Girl warms to business world). I hope you enjoy the hats! They will keep you toasty. |
What do I do when I'm not sewing ? Well, I'm never bored! I am an actor. I have been in a lot plays including two in New York City: Pandora's Box and Tabula Rasa. Also, I was at ACTF in a play called "everything is going to have to be put back". Most recently I was in The Crucible in Boston. One of my favorite places on earth is Andy's Summer Playhouse in Wilton, NH. It is a theatre which puts on professionally written, original, avant garde plays. The shows are acted by children for people of all ages. Come see some plays this summer and be amazed! My favorite sport is soccer, which I play year round for a club team. I also down hill ski race . I run and like to workout at our local gym. I've been playing the violin for seven years and this year I joined the New Hampshire Youth String Orchestra. I also sing in a choir. One of my sisters, Maggie, and I started a Youth Venture project with some friends this year called PigTales. We were awarded a grant to purchase and raise pigs with the plan that they would clear and fertilize the field so we can have a great spot for planting an organic garden. We got five pigs and they have been busy clearing the field. When they go to market we will donate some of the money we earn to Free the Children. I am interested in politics. I was very involved with campaigning in the last election. I was nominated to go to Washington D.C. for a leadership camp. I've been going to lots of political rallies to meet the candidates this time around as well. I love to cook! I make up a lot of recipes. I try to eat organic food as much as possible. This year my sister, mom and I are working on writing a cookbook. We are also planning a new business selling organic cookie mixes. |
